Mass Times
Part of our discussion is about where to celebrate the weekend Masses. The Parish Acitivity Center offers some benefits: convenient parking, restrooms, social space, handicap acessibility. I have been asked by some seniors about moving the 4;30 Saturday Mass to the PAC. Seating would be about 300, Church is 150.
I can foresee having all the Masses in the PAC before we get a new church built. The church would be used for weddings, funerals, daily Masses, adoration, stations, benediction, etc. How soon do we begin changing over?
One Sunday Mass for sure will be moved to accommodate the CCD program.
With a seating capacity of 300, we could reduce the Mass schedule until we need to add one back on. We have offerred three Sunday Masses because we needed the seats to accommodate the attendance. One Saturday and one Sunday in the Church and one Sunday in the PAC would increase our seating to 600, with about 450 attending.
The reduced schedule sounds appealing to me, but I will continue to do what is best for the parish.

At the Liturgy meeting this past Thursday, it was discussed about possibly doing Sunday Masses as follows: 9:00 a.m. (PAC) (Familiy Mass); CCD from 10:15 to 11:45; then a Mass at 11:00 at the Church; and, 5:00 p.m. at the Church. The problem I can foresee from our meeting the other night was that most Choirs represented at the meeting wanted to do the 9:00 a.m. Mass and there was a problem getting music covered for the 11:00 a.m. Church Mass, as well as the 5:00 p.m. Mass. Everyone seemed to like the idea, but none of the Choirs wanted to sing at 5:00 p.m. Mass on Sunday. The Youth Choir obviously would be a good fit for the 9:00 a.m. Mass at the PAC, and I believe the Folk Choir would also. Since Folk Choir sings alternate Sundays, that would probably work. The other issue arises that if the Folk Choir ends up providing music at the 11:00 mass at the Church, where will the keyboard come from. Will Val need to transport it back and forth? If we only have the organ left over at the Church, maybe 11:00 mass would be better suited for the traditional choir(s)? I am not sure, however, if we do an 11:00 Mass, and someone that has kids in CCD can't get to the 9:00 mass on time, then they'll have to wait until 5:00 p.m. to go to a Mass, since CCD would not be over until 11:45 a.m. I do not think anyone thought of this the other night. This is just my opinion.
Anonymous makes a good point about the choir dilemma and especially about the transportation issue. The 5:00 Mass time, though, would be an opportunity for a "teen Mass" along the lines of what St. Brendan does (in the future, of course!), and perhaps it could start as a cantor-only Mass...
