Being Catholic means being part of the universal Church. We are our Brother's Keeper. I have often mentioned our responsibilities to the larger Church. I am proud of the contributions St. Joseph parish has made in that regard. We have had parishioners in leadership roles in Marriage Encounter, Retrouville, Cum Christo, and Respect Life. We have had parishioners working in the Holy Family Soup Kitchen and bread pickup. For a small parish we are well represented.
I try to represent the parish by reminding people that my involvement at London Correctional Institution, Ohio reformatory for Women, Bishop Ready High School, St. Patrick's Grade School, Catholic Social Concerns, St. Gabriel Radio, etc. are possible becuase of the support I receive from the parish.

Being Catholic also means not bragging about being Catholic. I'm proud to be Catholic, but I find it unnerving to sit and listen to some homilies that belittle our fellow Christian religions. It's no wonder some other religion have the attitude that Catholics think they're the only ones going to heaven. Being in an interfaith (Catholic-Methodist) religion, I find it understandable why my spouse sometimes doesn't want to come to church with me; because sometimes when he does, he has to listen to homilies stating that Catholic people are better than non-Catholic people. (At least sometimes they come off that way.)
