Building Committee
Discussion at Building Committee focused on "let's build a new church first." The focus of the Bishops Stewardship letter is on using our resources to build up the kingdom of God with a reminder that we look beyond our own needs to reach out to others.
1. Building a new church is not an immediate priority. Many people worship in buildings far less comfortable than our Parish Activity Center. We are blessed with a beautiful church and a building that will allow us to grow. We should not be selfish and think of what we want first.
2. Developing a spirit of generosity is the first step in good stewardship. We count our blessings and return a portion to God to be used for His work. A generous parish will have the resources to take care of the needy and to build a church that gives glory to God.

Father, as always you are correct. I recall this analogy from a class it recieved not to long ago. It is not the wrapper, but what is inside of it.
A group of long time friends from college got together for their reunion. They were all very successful and took the opportunity to visit a professor of theirs while at the reunion. Their conversation soon turned to complaints about stress in work. The professor offered his guests coffee and went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups—porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal—some plain looking, some expensive—telling them to help themselves to the coffee.
When all the friends had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said: “If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups have been taken, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones.” The professor indicated, “Be assured that the cup itself, adds no quality to the coffee. While what all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, you consciously took the best cups … and subsequently began eyeing each other’s cups.”
He went on to say, “Consider that work is the coffee, and that all the stress and
problems you have are the cups (representative of jobs, relationships, cars,
houses etc.). They are just tools to hold something, and the type of cup we have
does not define, nor change the quality of the life we have. Sometimes, by
concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee that was provided.” He
said that the problem with them was that they were too picky about the
“containers” when what they really wanted was the “Life”.
