Mass Feedback

We are submitting the proposed schedule for your comments. Rather than offer a choice of schedules, which might split evenly and tell us nothing, we chose the best reccomendation of the Liturgy Committee. If there are serious objections and concerns raised, we will consider an alternate schedule. The difficult part is offering a Mass and CCD classes on Sunday morning that is not too early or too late. Total time involved is 2 hours and 45 minutes. It takes almost all the prime time on Sunday mornings.

One thing that popped in my head would be to move the Sunday morning CCD classes to another week night (like a Tuesday or something), thus eliminating the congestion on Sunday mornings. A lot of parishes in the Columbus Diocese have CCD 2 or 3 nights a week depending on their size. I know this might not fit with some scheduling of folks that teach or attend though. Just a thought.

What grades are going to be attending on Sunday mornings with the new schedule? Is it still PK through 2nd Grade?

Is there any way all grades could be scheduled at the same time. say Wednesday night?

With the amount of classrooms and grades, I have heard that we still have to split the CCD classes.

The younger children also face an issue of an earlier bedtime as well.

The consequence of the suggested Mass change is significant to me. There are people like myself who like an early, traditional Mass on Sunday. We would be forced to go to an 11 am Mass or go to a Folk Mass. To me that is not much of a choice... For me 11 AM is too late...I work all week and like to get up early on Sunday's, go to Mass and then start my day...And for me the Folk Mass/"Family Mass" would not get the job done for me, in needing to be fed with an appropriate, adult Christian message, along with adult, traditional music and the proper traditional Mass that I now experience at the 8:30 am Sunday Mass. I experienced way too many Folk Masses in my day...:)

My suggestion:

Understanding the importance of putting the catachesis of young people front and center, but unsure that the suggested schedule of Mass at 9 am with the Folk Choir and Youth Choir will see the numbers of young people that are hoped for, I suggest that CCD classes happen first with them attending an 11 am Mass afterwards.

I have viewed a lot of the comments under the other "strings". I agree that the people who are more into the traditional "adult" masses have a point and if they want to have an earlier Mass with organ music, that it would be offered to them.
Maybe we should indeed move 8:30 mass to 8:00, and stick with a 10:00 mass before CCD, having CCD from 11:15 until 12:45. From what I remember, it was done before in that manner (before we started the 11:30 masses). Just a thought.
However, I do not think that certain people's opinions that the Folk Group nor the Children's Choir are able to sing music in a reverent manner, or that Masses should be considered less holy because of the Music, are valid. I do not feel that groups that are not considered "traditional" should be considered unworthy of singing God's praises in a holy and reverent manner. I think that "stereotype" needs to desist. Thank you and have a great day!

Re: Paula's comments re: those who have expressed their opinion regarding a traditional Mass. The point of this forum is for people to express their opinions. If several people share an opinion that they want a continued tradional Mass, as in the current 8:30 am Sunday Mass, then there are many people who share a common viewpoint- nothing more - nothing less. Being told directly or indirectly that their opinion doesn't count or is erroneous is not appropriate, nor should they be told that their evaluation of anything is stereotypical and should "desist". No one should be shut down for their opinion...remember...this is a Christian site :)
